AKRON, Ohio (WTVN)--Former Ohio State Football coach Jim Tressel is a finalist for the job of President at the University of Akron.

The University says the three finalists will make official visits the week of April 28th, with Tressel's visit on May 1st. The other two candidates are the Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, and The Vice-President for Academic Affairs at the University of Toledo.

Tressel should be very familiar with the campus, since he's already serving as their Vice-President for Student Success. Tressel was hired by the university in 2011.

He was also a Graduate Assistant for the Zips Football team before starting his successful head coaching career, winning Division I-AA National Championships at Youngstown State, and the 2002 National Championship with Ohio State.

Tressel resigned from Ohio State in 2011, after the NCAA investigated Buckeye football players giving away memorabilia in exchange for tattoos.
