Attorney General certifies gay marriage petition

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) --Ohio's top law enforcer Monday has cleared a proposed constitutional amendment on gay marriage.

Attorney General Mike DeWine determined that the proposed Freedom to Marry and Religious Freedom Amendment  contained the required 1000 valid signatures of Ohio electors and a summary of the amendment that is a "fair and truthful "statement of the proposed law.

The next stop for the proposed amendment is the Ohio Ballot Board, which will have to decide whether it contains a single or multiple issues. Once that determination is made, Freedom to Marry Ohio can start gathering signatures in at least 44 of Ohio's 88 counties.
