In Chicopee a bit of a surprise. The City Council has withdrawn its proposal to ask the Attorney General to investigate the Police Department’s taking of personal pictures at the Amanda Plass murder scene. Councilors say the family made the request after the whole issue became to upsetting to them. Councilors say it is too politicized and too emotional for everyone to keep the issue open.
Holyoke City Councilors heard two of their own offer apologies for their open mike comments about a fellow city councilor who was pregnant at the time. Daniel Bresnahan and Todd McGee offered the apologies but some of the residents at the meeting last night questioned their sincerity. The council did accept a petition from residents calling for the two councilors to resign after their off color remarks. They say they will not.
A Holyoke School is in danger of being taken over by the state. Education Commissioner Mitchell Chester says the takeover of the Morgan School was very likely. The commissioner says that students have not been learning to read or write or do math at grade level for the last three years and something has got to be done. No final decisions. However, Mayor Alex Morse asked the commissioner to name Superintendent Sergio Parez as the receiver to run the embattled school.
The area City Clerks offices should be open late tonight. This is the last day that you can register to vote for the November 5th election.
Baystate Franklin nurses have voted to authorize up to a three day strike against the hospital. Nurses and the hospital have been negotiating for two years without a final outcome. Overtime and other financial issues are the stumbling blocks.
Whately becomes the latest community to at least temporarily bar medical marijuana facilities from their town. Town Meeting members voted overwhelmingly for the ban last night.
In Amherst, officials say they have lifted the ban on outdoor activities because of the Triple E virus. Officials say that there is no danger now thanks to the weather.
