DRUG TAKE BACK PROGRAM PLANNED FOR SATURDAY

Nineteen communities in western Massachusetts will participate in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, when people are asked to clean out their medicine cabinets of unwanted and outdated prescription drugs to help prevent misuse, diversion and abuse of the drugs.

The Northwestern District Attorney's Office, Drug Enforcement Administration, Hampshire and Franklin sheriff's departments, local police, prevention coalitions and other partners have collected more than seven tons of unwanted and outdated prescription drugs since 2011.  The events are planned for April 26.

Participating towns include Northampton, Amherst, Belchertown, Easthampton, Granby, Hadley, Huntington, Southampton, South Hadley, Ware, Williamsburg, Greenfield, Ashfield, Deerfield, Erving, Montague, Orange, Sunderland and Athol.
